When will we know if Ducati will change the body of the S2R/S4R. I mean, will the current style S4RS be available next year? My guess is that I won't be able to find any new S4RS's at the end of the year. Not sure if any are available now.

i believe this is 08 was the last model year for the S4R* line of bikes
as for the S2R.....keep an eye out for the next big bike show (spring, right..?) if ducati is gonna change the line, and i fear they are, it will show up then.
'08 is definitely the last year of the current body style. That's why they issued 400 numbered Tricolores, to make a collectible homage to the last of its kind. At some point in '09 we're going to start seeing larger displacement Monsters styled like the 696. If you like the old body style, snap one up quick 'cause they're gonna be gone sooner than later. On the plus side, the 696 looks far better in person than in pics and has a number of very positive attributes such as the replaceable panels that make up the faux fuel tank. Stuff like that can really go a long way toward minimizing the cost of an accident. If I hadn't bought my Tricolore, I'd definitely be thirsting for a large displacement Monster in the new body style. But I'm darn glad I bought #187 and really love the classic Monster look and the awesome power of the Testastretta!
My local Ducati dealer and I were chatting away last week, he has been advised to expect to see some Information about the big brother to the 696 coming through in the next 6 - 8 weeks.
The Importer of Ducati here in Australia has been told it is going to be the HyperMotard motor in a very similar design frame as the 696.
No word on Specs or details.
I believe the Milan show is next month. Hopefully we'll all know more after that.
Expect also to see at Milan a replacement for the current 998cc S4R. The new version will by all accounts use the new 696 Monster as a base and fit it with the engine from a 1098 to give it more power. An R model will follow in due course.

This is sorta old news.

Stepping up to the 1098 is not so good as far as I am concerned. Ducati has for the most part kept the displacement under 1k. For us that means lower insurance cost. I have only riden an S4R once and I have to say there was probably too much power.
This is how I wish they would run the Monster lineup
Air cooled double sided swing arms
696 - 80 hp - $8775 US
992 - 100 hp - $10775 US (the S2R engine with new 696 head design?)
Water cooled single sided swing arm
849 - 134 hp - $12775 US (the 848 motor)
1099 - 160 hp - $14775 US (the 1098 motor)

I kinda like those ideas, except for the Single sided swing. I think all Duc's should have it. I get many looks at mine. Even the Harley boys gauk at it.
what are the weight differences between the two?
plus i like the idea of the monster have a more classic/non hi-tech look. the double swing arm gives that. the single makes it too much ...
that's why i consider the SSS monsters the 2nd gen bikes and the 696 the 3rd gen.
The next new model will be the 1100 monster. Its not even a secret anymore.
that 1098 naked thing IS NOT a monster. and its a long way off 2010
Everything in 696 design shape can stay in Italy and rot next to old pasta. [puke]
Looks like i need to take a big loan now, buy a S4Rs and put it into a vacuum chamber
that's going to make riding it difficult.
