Looking at doing some swapping on my bike.
I have a 96 M900.
I can source a fuel tank from a 2001 M600 dark (carb'd).
If I understand it correctly, it will work, but I will need a 00- > up seat.
Will a seat from a 2007 S4r work?
In other words, is the hardware and the tank "cut outs" for the seat the same on a 2001 M* and a 2007 S*r?
According to the Corbin site, there is one shape seat for 93-99 and another from 00-05. They don't mention anything post-2005.
Thanks,
Bob
Since you have the new gas tank it should work. Maybe call Corbin and ask them to be sure. I don't think there is a difference from '05 to current seats. I had an older seat on my '06 bike. The only problem I had was that I had to press really hard for it to click into the latch and sometimes it would come loose while I was riding. Then I added a washer to each side to bring the locking mechanism a tad higher and the problem was easily solved.
The latch mechanism on your 96 900 uses a hoop on the seat that presses down into the latch on the bike. Right?
The newer bikes have a notched pin that sticks down off the seat and pushes into a latch on the bike.
I don't have any experience with older stock seats, just Corbin and Sargents. The aftermarket seats have a removable latch hoop on the seat that can be swapped onto a newer seat to make it work.
Check your seat and see if its possible to take off the hoop.
I'm not sure if a newer stock seat allows the latch pin to be taken off and swapped to a hoop, but the aftermarket seats definitely do.
You can always go to the dealership and ask them to take a seat off one of their bike and put it on yours so you can see if you like it. If you don't like it then don't buy it from them.
