Dunno your skill set but I had the impression you're a bit mechanically-inclined ... so DIY on the service is out of the picture?

Or am I confirming to everyone reading this just how mechanically lacking I am in not realizing how absurd DIY is?  ;D

A DIY is within my scope-except for most of the time I've had it, I've had nothing else. So I can take it apart, but if for some reason I can't put something together, I'm hosed.

If I need to go to a parts store, there's nothing close by-it'd be an all day bicycle to local train affair. Once again hosed. This does not work out well when ytou need to ride it to work in the morning.

And anyone who does it yourself knows that you *will* have problems at some point, and calling a taxi to try and make it to the dealer on Saturday before they close ('cause they sure ain't open on Sunday or Monday) would suck. Having to wait until Tuesday to finish the job I started Friday would suck, so it was a much better turnaround to have the local shop do it.

All that aside, I still really like the bike, and would deal with the costs of ownership if they actually meant I could ride it. I can't, so they get irritating.

someguy,

what you're looking for is called a Street Glide made by Harley Davidson. [thumbsup]

The maintenance cost does get pretty high, but I'm not sure it's much better with a BMW.  I was looking at a new GS which require annual maintenance and I'm sure the dealer is going to bend you over every time.  Maybe post on advrider and see what people are paying for annual service?

Doesn't your Monster have white wheels?  Before you sell it, you might want to astroturf a bit to convince people how easy they are to keep clean.   :)

Quote from: someguy on August 24, 2008, 05:11:45 PMThe Monster just isn't comfy for me anymore, not even with the aftermarket bars and the like. It just...hurts to ride it. So....time to sell it and find something a little more fitting to me. Boo.

Damn, that's a crappy conclusion to have to come to. Sorry to hear it. :-\ On the other hand, at least you know the answer is "ride something different" as opposed to "stop riding altogether." So, as unhelpful as such a thought may be, uh, it could be worse.

But don't worry. I'm sure that, given time, you'll learn to love the turbo 'Busa as much as you loved the S4.

Went and checked out BMW's yesterday. Liked a couple of 'em, but just can't justify spending that much on a bike. I make look into older bikers.

I'm thinking supermoto for hooliganism, and mebbe the old Honda as a commuter.
