I know this has been discussed but I can't find any of the old threads. For the first 600 miles break in period I was told to treat the first 100 miles gently. Don't accelerate hard and don't engine break. Then after the first hundred miles, hammer the heck out the bike. This was told to my by the mechanic at the dealer. Others have said vary the RPMs and don't break hard. Any hard and fast rules about this? It's a 2008 695.
Is it June yet?

DEVO!

I just went by what it says in the owners manual.  [moto]

Just go by the manual and you'll be fine.

Actually, the engine braking part (high vacuum) is the best procedure for seating the rings and avoiding "glazing" the cylinder walls. Put the bike in 2nd gear, run it up to what ever the rpm limit is (4k I think for the first 600mi) and close the throttle all the way and let it engine-brake down to say 1500rpm and repeat. You can throw a few of these in off and on during your ride for the first 600mi. After that just stick to the RPM limits but don't "baby" it!  [moto]

I'm not totally useless, I can be used as a bad example!
