CLUTCH - FLUID LEAK

I'm stuck here at work as my clutch is inoperable at the moment and I had a large fluid leak underneath the cycle.  The drips were accumulating to the inside of the kickstand when looking at the bike from the side (to the left are the handlebars).  What I want to know is:

1) Why is it this leaking at this spot? 
2) What needs to be replaced? 

I did not feel fluid at the clutch reservoir nor near the clutch slave.  Felt the metal around there and no fluid to the touch.  Underneath this area, it was leaking pretty bad.  I've had the clutch reservoir replaced with a used one and have had AMS - Dallas check the bike over when I purchased it and another independent check the cycle.  I mentioned to the independent that I've had to put fluid in and sometimes remove the cap and then replace to get some pressure to the clutch.

I am guessing the clutch slave cylinder is leaking  and it is dripping into the countersprocket area.  Remove the front sprocket cover and look around there to see if there is a leak there.  If it is the clutch slave cylinder, some of them can be rebuilt if the cylinder is not scored (inside where the piston resides) or mayneed to be replaced if it cannot be rebuilt.

not worth rebuilding. Supposely the newer slaves are better, so if you need to, i guess you can *upgrade*.

At this point, if your clutch has no pressure, i wouldnt attempt to ride it. call someone to come pick you and the bike up, or chain it to something, cover it, and get it towed the next day, unless you can walk it home or something.

Definitely a bad clutch slave. Hope you made it home alright. Often when the slave goes it goes rather abruptly so it's hard to anticipate. Be happy that your slave didn't die on you while you were in traffic.

I am quite pleased w/ my Yoyodyne slave that I got from ca-cycleworks.com after my original slave went kaput. Most of the slaves are the same price and are only a bit more if not the same price as a new stock slave. Plus the Yoyodyne has a lifetime warranty.

+1 make sure the push rod and bearing spin freely.  Thats why my slave failed.

Yeah, a leaky clutch slave is not always the problem and is sometimes the symptom of another problem on the right side of the bike. If the bearing in the middle of the pressure plate seizes up it can cause the push rod to drill into the slave which then causes it to leak. That's what they're telling you to check for.

Thanks for the responses and information everyone.  I had to wait for 3 hours until the tow truck showed up and fortunately I was in my work's parking garage so I could wait inside.  A little cool last night (34 degrees).  The worst part was losing the key now and the driver and I had to roll the bike and then bounce/slide the rear wheel to get it on the bed of the tow truck.     I have no idea where the key is either.
