Greetings all.  I've wanted a Monster for 4 years now, and I've finally got a golden opportunity.  A local dealership has an '02 620 Dark with less than 7K on it asking $3999.  Just wanted to do even more in-depth research on the beast before I pull the trigger on Saturday.  I've always loved the naked and cafe racing look, so the first mod is... wait for it... CLIP ONS!  Who'd have thought?

Currently I've got an 82 Honda CM 250 that's been stripped down and as caffed as possible, can't wait to move up to a 618 and be able to actually pass on the interstate.  I should be happy with the power for the first few months, after that  I don't know.  Gonna have to lurk around and find out with others are doing to our small displacement friends.  If anyone else is from the area or has interesting stories, feel free to drop a line.

welcome to the board Bellagio.
the 620 is a great bike.
Never wrestle with pigs. You both get dirty, and the pigs like it...

620's not the most powerful bike in the world, but it's got enough juice to keep you happy for more than a couple months. Good luck with the decision. and pics if you get the bike.

Thanks all.  Here's the link on the bike, 4 pretty good shots of it.  Love that it's got the carbon Leo Vince high mounts on it already.  http://www.roadtrackandtrail.com/new_vehicle_detail.asp?sid=0436474X1K8K2009J8I51I20JPMQ2767R0&veh=3897&pov=1082138

Let me know what you think... and no one steal this one from me!  It'll kill the dream!

A buddy o mine has a 620 and LOVES it.  He has been riding now for about 2.5-3 years and just rails on the damn thing.  Does the bike you are looking at have the stock gearing?

oh "f" it...buy the damn thing!!! ;D

Bellagio

Currently it's got the stock gearing, but once the slip is in my hand I've got a good 3.5-4 months to work on it before I'd be able to take it out (stupid 8" of snow today).  If I'm looking to increase the torque at the expense of HP, correct me if I'm wrong, I'd want a slightly smaller rear sprocket?

If anyone wants to make the trek up to Milwaukee, I live about 6 minutes away from the premier commercial bacon houses in the states... Patrick Cudahy!  Have about 6 lbs of BACON and plenty of Miller products (hey, it's Milwaukee) in the fridge.  Who's up for throwing on some clip ons and lowering gauges???   [bacon]

You'll want to either go down in the front sprocket (to 14-tooth) or up in the rear sprocket (usually by 2 teeth).

Well friends, I now have Ducatitis.  I bought my first Monster!  2002 M620 Dark.  Paid asking price, I think the sales rep saw the sh!t eating grin on my face when he fired it up.  The full high mount Leo Vince carbon system made me jizz my pants and I knew I had to have it.  Here are some pics, enjoy!  I know I will!

Congratulations! A salesman used the same trick on me, i.e. firing up the M696 with the carbon Termi's in the showroom. It's in my garage now.

Oldest trick in the book.  They know the path to a riders heart is through the ears, buggers.  I'm stoked, pick her up in 2hrs 8min.  I can't wait to sit on her in my garage for the next 3 months...
