Recommendation on camcorder to record rides?

Other than Go-Pro, do you guys have any recommendation for camera that reasonably captures ride ?  Some camera's make everything look too slow as fps is to low I guess.

Any recommendation is appreciated.

I've been happy with my Vio POV 1.5M setup (+ external mic).  Super rugged and dependable.  Video quality is pretty good - better than what you see after youtube compresses it.

But the field is changing fast.  Lots of HD choices now!  Vio has an HD version of their POV coming out in a few weeks.

I'm sure others will chime in with their experiences.

Just be careful, sometimes mounting a camera on the bike has the unintended side effect of lowering your IQ

I am using a Vivitar DVR-530

One other thing, before you mount the camera hold it in your hand and shake it. If anything rattles (in the case of this camera it is the record button) - You will need to put some blue painters tape on it - or it creates a loud buz when recording

I use Contour HD and Go-Pro HD. The example.

I like Contour HD better, mostly because it's easier to operate. Push the power button on, slide the rec switch to rec position. That's all, couldn't be simpler. If "riding" is a main thing (and you just want to capture some footage for fun / sharing with friends later ), you don't want to deal with too many functions / modes . (I have done it, others have done it. WIth Go-Pro, it happens that you thought you were shooting video and actually taking bunch of photos ...) That said, Go-Pro isn't that bad a choice.

It also depends on lens (how wide), camera position (how close to the ground, how it's angled), and editing. Basically, everything you would see on video (if they are shot on the street at sane riding pace) WILL look somewhat slower than you felt while actually riding the bike. You can alter the speed (to make them look faster ) at editing stage (although I never bothered to do it.) See first Mad Max movie, it's a great example of how to shoot and edit with low budget.

I used a friends cheap Sandyo Xacti HD camera and the quality is good.  But as you pointed out everything looks slower as opposed to the gopro which makes everything look faster than it really is (atleast the non-hd wide angle).

I use the Go Pro ( I know, you said "other than") Its great, i had the Go Pro HD (1080p @30fps and 720p @ 60fps) but got rid of it a while ago because we didnt use it much. I just started riding again and got the GoPro960HD for my bday and it's awesome. It doesnt have the 1080p or the 720p @ 60fps, but its got a great lens, and I love the options. Not too hard to figure out, and super easy to set up.

Definitely a must have @ $180 from amazon, no tax

Im looking at getting the Go Pro Hd.... where and how do you mount it on your Monster? Do i need to get the bicycle handle bar clamp thingy?

 can do one of two things, if you get the goproHD (1080p version) you can buy the motorsport iteration which comes with some attachments. Or you can go on amazon and buy a "grab bag" of attachments for 20 bucks ( I'll post te link when I'm not responding on my phone) in the bag as the handlebar mount and a couple other things. Tere is also a roll cage adapter that seems to work quite well, though I haven't tried it personally, it's gonna be my next purchase.
