[laugh] [clap] nice mass mailing to all, but it is nice to be missed  :-X
It's been real, it's been fun, it's been real fun!

Didn't get one either. I logged in about 6 months ago to get people to come over here maybe that's why. There is no interaction with people over there, just the sound of  couple of crickets.

TCK!

I haven't gotten one yet, but I think I know why. My hard drive recently crashed, so while setting up the new password cache on the new one, I inadvertently went to the old site via a password request/reset. Whoops. I need to ditch those password reset emails from way back when.

It took me a second to realize where I was. They've redone the site to look a lot like here.... sneaky bastards!

Well, I guess my theory in my previous post was wrong. I just got the email from the old board last night. I promptly requested they delete my account. I stated that I did not support nor condone the actions of the VS admins, and had no desie to be affiliated with them.

And what was the response?

I think that all of you who got these e-mails should be ashamed of yourselves for not being banned for life.  ;D

I noticed that they were fairly quick to ban me, but their FAQ still has a bunch of stuff that I wrote.  If I'm bad enough to ban for life, the least they could do is delete everything that I contributed to that site too.

I got the email as well, but I don't find it sad or pathetic.  If I don't hear from a former client for a while I'll drop him/her a line to see how things are going.  I just figured this was the same thing.  Meh.

Except in this case I think they have a pretty good idea of what happened.  It's not like we were all happy and just stopped posting after time.  We all dropped off rather abruptly.

Being such so noobalicious might I ask, what brought on the split?

Basically this company (Vertical Scope) bought the old site from the guy who started it, and promised they wouldn't chance anything.

But a few folks weren't entirely convinced, since it seemed like every other site this company had bought was now covered from head to toe with the most garish, flashing advertising imaginable.

Seizure inducing stuff.

So while they kept promising nothing would change a few folks snuck off and got a second board ready, just in case the worst happened.

Then the day came when VS switched over to the new web site design, and there was a giant collective vomiting by the members.

Luckily there was a new site just waiting for them to join, although anyone who posted on the old site anything about the new site was pretty much immediately banned.

The rest is history. They have about 50 active members on their site, we have a few thousand.

I own several motorcycles. I have owned lots of motorcycles. And have bolted and/or modified lots of crap to said motorcycles...

Prior to the changes instituted by VerticalScope, we peaked at 261,221 visits a month. (April 2008) Two months later it was 100,391 visits a month, and has pretty much stayed there since.

The bounce rate went from 30% to 52% and time on site dropped in half. Pageviews dropped by 73%.

It's hard to imagine how their business model makes sense, but it's their business model I suppose. It felt like the internet equivalent of strip mining when it happened.
