I'm surprised the deck isn't cleared as well, but maybe they ran out of room in the hangar??

My dad was on the Enterprise when they steamed thru a Typhoon leaving the Phillipines in the early 70s. He said most of their aircraft left prior to them going thru the storm, and their support ships left the Phillipines early to skirt the storm. Also said there were waves coming over the bow of the carrier, which did a fair amount of damage to the ship.

My thoughts as well. I read a story about a carrier in a near hurricane and the worst part wasn't the water coming over the bow, it was the swell and sudden multi story drop that didn't sound like much fun.
