i would be careful about carrying a laptop on bike attached luggage on a regular basis.  the laptop is going to take a lot of vibration which really isnt good for it in the long term.  this means tank bags, saddle bags, and tailbags... if i'm bringing a laptop, i normally use a backpack instead so your body will cancel out the vibes.

if you do go ahead with the bike mounted luggage for your laptop, i would suggest you look into getting a SSD for it... your drive is going to be your biggest point of catastrophic failure and having a SSD will make sure that if anything happens, at least there are no moving parts to break/scratch/lose data.
