Out of town help

I'm flying into DFW Friday morning to pick up a new multistrada - to add to the family - not replace :)  Looking for some info from some locals:

1. Is there a good place for motorcycle accessories in town? I'm hoping to pick up an emergency tire repair kit for the trip back to Colorado. I have a kit currently, but I can't bring CO2 cartridges on a plane, so I'll be looking for a local supply in town.
2. Is there any decent roads outta the DFW going toward the NW part of the state? Easiest route seems to be 287 outta Ft Worth now, but would love to find a stretch of decent roads to pass the time. Ultimate destination is Denver.

If you can offer any suggestions PM me or simply post here.

Thanks!

1. You're closer to Fort Worth since you're heading West from DFW airport... There's a BMW & also a Ducati dealership on 183.

You purchase from a Dealer or personal owner?

Also, there are a couple of Cycle Gear shops in the area. (One about 9 miles west of the airport.)

The other is on the south side of Fort Worth (depending on where you're picking up the bike) - but out of the way if you're heading NW out of Fort Worth.

Get ready for a new defintion of the words "suck" and "slab". One that you will be living in real time. I have family in Frisco, CO and travel to northeast NM (Cimmaron area) all the time and there are absolutley no interesting roads heading in that direction at all until you hit NM or CO. Sorry, better to tell you straight up than lie and give you hope. And Texas seems to get only bigger and bigger as you head up 287 toward Amarillo. Did I mention the typically strong hot south/southwest winds that blow like a motherf#@ker in the summer through west TX that hit you as a crosswind going up 287. Oh yeah, new definition for the word "buffeting" too. [thumbsup] Seriously, it will dehydrate the shit out of you. Stay up on fluids. I'm not sugar coating this too much for you am I? [laugh] No shit, have it trucked to you. Figure the airfare, gas for the bike and the personal boredom and misery (big dollar figure on that one!) and I think you'll come out ahead having it trucked... and you will keep your sanity. [bang]

Oh yeah, good tip on the bike shop. [thumbsup]

ps   At least break it up over two days. That is a long, long 800 mile trip. Done it many times in a cage but on a bike you gotta bust the trip in half. DFW to Amarillo is about 350-375. Have stayed there a few times because the family couldn't handle going straight through. Either way, watch the statewide forecast closely. There have been some big mother storms brewing up your way that have been storming (pun intended!) through the TX panhandle towards DFW. One came through this AM and there may be more tomorrow. Seen some nasty west TX storms before and was damn glad I was in a Surburban and not a bike. Be careful bro'! [moto] Good luck.

So.........does that mean we wont be making any rides that way this summer :(

I survived them and vowed to live in comfort the rest of my natural days. [wine]

Appreciate all the info. It's a 2007 1100S from a private seller. Still a good deal, even if I have to come pick it up :)

Boring, dull slab ride or not congrats on the bike! Screw the ride think of it as an adventure! [moto] Actually, even a sleepy trip up 287 to Amarillo sounds pretty good right now. At least you are heading for good roads eventually. If I close my eyes and think real hard I can imagine riding a bike up the mountain road in Rocky Mountain National Park... I forget the name of it but it's the highest paved road in the US. As you probably know. Awesome road, killer scenery... don't get much of that around here. Again, have a safe trip and have fun on the new bike. Just keep thinking of those cool roads around Evergreen that you'll be tearing up this weekend! [thumbsup]
