My first bike was verrrrrrrrrryyyyy short lived.
I had it for 6 Hours before my friends dad hit it while it was parked on the side of the road outside his house.

(yea it was a sticky situation.... pretty much lost a friend for a bit)

but i got another bike and i can't wait to learn about modding and just regular maintenance. Also i wanna do some group rides!!

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Welcome!  As a new rider make sure you also get proper riding gear (pants, jacket, boots, gloves, quality helmet) and some training (MSF advanced course, track day schools, that sort of thing) - those will improve your experience far more than some bits of carbon for your bike  [Dolph]

I have a leather jacket w/  the Armour, gloves and arai helmet. Now i'm still looking for boots and pants. Any suggestions? i wanna be able to ride to work and school. but i'm fine with wearing full on gear while on group rides and meet ups etc... Basically when i know i'm going to be testing my limits and practicing.

I use a bike every day (don't drive a cage 'cept to tow the race bikes).  For commuting I wear overpants (protective pants that zip over whatever you normally wear) and sport-touring boots (protective, but can walk in them ok).  I either bring with me or leave at the office a pair of regular shoes, when I get to work I slide out of the jacket/overpants/boots, slip on office shoes and am all set - quick and easy  [thumbsup]

Also overpants + boots helps keep from tearing up/getting dirty your pants/shoes.

There are lots of brands.  For textile I've had really good luck with joe rocket overpants and pretty good luck with olympia (and poor luck with first gear) and for leather though first gear makes quite nice (and really the only) overpants and they happen to be on sale right now.  http://www.motorcyclegear.com/street/closeouts/leather_suits_jackets_and_pants/first_gear/2011_kwik_dry_sport_tour_leather_motorcycle_overpants.html

There are dozens of options for boots - I generally go with goretex so that when it rains I only need to slip on some rain pants and I'm good.  These are nice but far from the only good option http://www.motorcyclegear.com/street/boots/waterproof_sport_street_touring_boots/alpinestars/tech_touring_gore_tex_motorcycle_boots.html

Here's a bazilion options for waterproof boots
