welcome to the board. I can tell you that my s2r1000 and any 600cc crotch rocket are very different rides, but that's not a very exact answer. i'm sure someone who has ridden the 1100 evo will chime on, and chances are there is someone who has ridden both bikes.
Never wrestle with pigs. You both get dirty, and the pigs like it...

They are definitely different bikes.  I would personally enjoy the M1100 more than the 600cc I4.  You'll have way more low end grunt, a more visceral-feeling motor, much better sound, a bit more comfort and a lot better looks (imho).  You'll have a little less peak hp, won't rev anywhere near as high, and won't handle quite as well (especially at high speeds), though for casual riding its a bit easier to throw around due to the wider, taller bars.

I would rank the monster as far superior for most road riding and the CBR as superior for track-days and road racing.

Very true.
Monsters are fantastic street bikes, many owners have another bike for track days. That doesn't mean you cant take a Monster to a track day, and the 4 valvers hold their own, no problem.

I went from a 2005 600rr to the 1100 evo.  Like has already been said they are very different bikes.  So as not to repeat all the valid points already expressed I'll just tell you I love the Evo and miss the 600rr.  The Evo feels more broad in its function while the RR is focused on more aggressive riding.  I can cruise upright and comfortable on the Evo or tuck and get on it.  The RR was always in that heavy lean forward position.  The Evo excels at low end torque and is quite fast.  It doesn't feel as fast as the RR and having a 15,000 RPM redline allows u to stay in gear longer where u find yourself flying thru the gears on the Evo.  Like I said, I love the Evo but I may have to add a Supersport back to my garage in the future.

Oh, and there is no contest in the looks and emotion department.  The Evo is gorgeous and provides a much more visceral riding experience...where the Honda feels a bit sanitized.
