I got myself a 06 s2r1k and was wondering when will the engine go poof.  Currently I got 17k on the bike.

Part of the 18k service is replacing the entire engine and the gauge cluster FYI, so I would imagine somewhere between 18k and 18.5k if you don't get the service performed.

I do believe the dr is kidding.

Engine should last a good long while, but it would be worth doing a full service so you know the belts and valves are all good.
Unless, of course, you've got good detailed maintenance records that show it's been done recently, like at 12k.

Might want to get your valve guides checked before the warranty expires (if you can), some of the DS motors have issues.
