I'm looking for something like this.

Or this

to go on top of this.

I've never owned a cargo box system before any suggestions?

Have you considered this?

1st...you'll need crossbars for said box to mount to. these will go from the lengthwise euro rails across the vehicle to support the box.

2nd...my personal preference is to find a box that opens on both sides. Most of them open on 1 side, but the pivot mechanism for opening on both is awefully convenient for the idea of packing things in such a way for quick grabbing. Climbing over the car sometimes just sucks.

3rd...order a couple extra keys...put 1 on your keyring, 1 actually in the car, and then of course the spares at home where and when you need them further on down the road.

I own an older yakima rocket box and a newer thule.  Both brands are good.  I picked the thule for my new one because the lid lock system is much simpler, like the old yakima.

If you can wait another week - REI usally has a labor day weekend sale on boxes, 20% off.

Otherwise craigslist is a great place to find used ones for half the price of new.

You mean this?

The MPG is worse and I don't need that much space. I just need about the amount of extra space you can put in a roof carrier.

Speeddog

Yes, that.
