New to NYC

Hey, all.  I'm moving to NYC next month.  Grew up in the area (N. Jersey) but haven't lived east in years.  Anyway, had a few questions:

- I can leave my bike at my sister's place in NJ during the winter, but the rest of the year I'd like to keep in the city.  Is this foolish?  Must I get a garage or will a krypto lock to the building work (assuming that's an option)?

- What is general parking situation for bikes?  Can you use any large sidewalk area or do you have to put in the street with the four-wheelers?

- Moto shop recommendations?  (I know there is a thread for this, but a lot of the links are out of date.)

Any other advice about a keeping a bike in the city is well appreciated.  Thanks!

1. Id seuggest getting a garage. No crypto lock or alarm is going to stop a thieve, once he decides he wants your  bike. They use these hydraulic cutters (ive heard) and they can cut through anything you can buy to secure your bike. I still have a link from my last 929. The ny fuggeadabout it chain. The link was cut. and pinched to the width of a sheet of paper.

2.  By law, it needs to be parked on the street, at an angle to not get ticketed. Your experience may differ. I know many people that park on the sidewalk and cover the bike. However, near the end of the month, cops and meter maids get desperate and they will write tickets for anything. Years ago, i left a bike on the sidewalk and a cop wrote a ticket for obstructing a walkway. (or something to that effect).

3. Hands down. Broklyn moto. Those guys have treated me right, since the first time i walked into the door. always cheaper than the dealer.. and theyre ducati mechanics from the ducati shop that closed down.
