Red hot udder???

Today was my first ride in about 2-3 months since i went down and burned the skin off my ankle...and after installing all these new goodies i noticed something with my exahust....part of my mod list did not include afterburners on my bike, but some how, one managed to get inside my udder.

i have never noticed this at all. But how rich do i have to be running for THIS to happen? sorry for pulling the IZ. it was cold outside

I don't know what I'm talking about, but aren't the cat insides of the udder supposed to become very hot to do what they're are meant to do (afterburning?)

Looked it up online, cant find too many links, but it seems like its normal for it to glow...

I have a Rapid Bike  3 Module. Runs great!

Normal cat temperature is 12-1600oF.  Damage will happen at 2000o.  Engine pipe not glowing, cat glowing is not a good sign.  You are running rich.  You can confirm you are running too rich by comparing inlet temperature to outlet temperature.  500o or higher at the outlet and you are looking at trouble.

It would be better to get a bypass header and core your stock cans.  Sound better and I bet makes a little better power than udder alone.

Taking the udder off, cutting it down the weld seam, hulling the udder out and welding it back together along with cored stock cans would be almost as good as the bypass header too.  A little labor intensive, but effective.

When did Ducati start putting catalytic converters in the udder in the U.S.?

If I recall correctly, it was just a baffle/collector when the S*R was first released in the U.S.

i had a 1098 with the termi ti homologated kit (cats in the mufflers) on the dyno for a few runs and at the end the cats were so hot they were almost translucent.  it was running a blue/orange flame about 8 inches long out of the mufflers on overrun too - looked very cool.

No one knows for sure. AFAIK, the SR2 800 never had a cat in the US though.   Follow my temperature guide if you want to know if yours has one.
