I know I don't post up much here any more but I do check in regularly. And since he was one of the official cats of the DMF, I wanted to let you guys know that last night about 10:30pm central time, Loki passed away.
He was in excellent health and his last several checkups were fantastic. Outside of regular dental cleanings, he seemed to be in fantastic health.
My wife rescued him and his sister 7.5 years ago from the Animal Rescue League. They had been found together in an alley and neither of them had very good prognoses.
But against the odds (our vet said Loki especially would be lucky to see his second birthday), both of them got healthy and chubby and happy.

Loki quite literally loved everyone. In fact, just yesterday, while the termite inspector was here (we are selling our house and upgrading to a larger place), he followed him around everywhere cooing to get his attention the whole time.
When the inspector asked if he could pet him, we both laughed and said, "Not only can you but he fully expects you to."
But that's just how my little buddy was. He always wanted to be where people were. He wanted to know what you were doing and if he could help.
He was the only one (including my wife) who would sit through motorcycle races with me. And he was always fascinated by the helicopter shots.

I keep telling myself that he was just a cat but he wasn't just a cat. He was Loki and he was special. He was cute and blonde and was a little bit brain damaged (massive fever spikes when he was a kitten shortly after my wife rescued him). But he loved everyone...even his stupid dog. Because make no mistake, that was his dog and you could see the disdain he had for the stupid dog every time the stupid dog walked by.
But he was pure and unconditional love. He trusted everyone and loved them because they were and that was enough for him.

Anyway, my wife is terribly busted up about his loss and I didn't cry this much when my mom passed away. Last night it felt like a bad dream. This morning it feels like a waking nightmare. I know it will pass but that little guy was such a great little bundle of love.

He wasn't just a cat, he was your family cat.
Your description reminds me of my 3 cats, they're like dogs, hang out with my dogs and want to be handled as such.

Ducati is the pretty girl that can't walk in heels without stumbling. I still love her.

RIP Loki. A good cat is a great thing.

Loki looks like he was quite a fine fellow. He was lucky to know you & vice versa. Though I've never yet shared a home with one, I've always had a soft spot in my heart for orange tabbies. RIP, big guy.

RIP, Loki.

One of mine is 10 (also an orange tabby), and I absolutely dread the day he passes. It will kill me.

I can sympathize with you because Buzz the cockatiel thats my avatar passed away six months ago and even though she was only a small bird the house feels empty with out her.

I've thought about getting another but she had such a wonderful temperament I don't think that I'd find one as good.

RIP Loki
