way too late repy but a 50 gallon trash bag makes a good poncho, flaps like mad if you don't tape it down a bit but helps cut the rain.

Wear it under your jacket, but you are gonna get wet no matter what, you can also try and find some rubber gloves to wear under or over yours that will help. I ride in the rain all the time and plastic bags will work just wear them under your gear or they will flap around and eventually fall all the way off

GLattern, what tires do you have? You just need to trust them, and not get jerky with the movements. Ive ridden in downpours harder than todays (that dont stop for 3+ hours) at well over 80mph highway. Just watch out for white lines, manholes, and other drivers. as far as getting soaked. Thats why i picked up a kriega R25 pack. Waterproof, so i can just dump everything in there. Im soaked, but atleast my phone, wallet, paperwork etc isnt.

Have fun. riding in the rain is a blast! your engine never gets of LO and 129 degrees. (air cooled anyway)

That has happened to me a few times - isn't that the opposite of Murphy's law?

Never thought of putting it UNDER the jacket.  That's a great tip!!!

Last time we did a riding weekend and it rained the first day.  We stopped and bought rain top/bottoms (my mesh jacket came with a rain top so I just had to buy the bottoms) and it was a blast!!!  We were on the PA turnpike, so we didn't have to worry about potholes, manholes, cross traffic - just keep her straight and turn the head occasionally to clear the windshield.  Found out the boots are not waterproof, and just ordered the waterproofer from aerostitch - so I should be set for the Labor Day weekend 4 day ride!!!

glantern - have fun in the rain.  No getting around it - and it's kinda cool to mess with the people who pass you and look at you like you're crazy!!  They're the crazy ones!!  Better to ride - anytime!!
Frickin' snow!

Be careful, enjoy the ride,  be thankful that it isn't winter!  Wet and cold is miserable!
