A better M695?

I have desperately rushed to get Monster 695 in May-June this year after I was sure that 696 is going to replace it.
Unfortunately, due to $$ issues I was not able to accomplish this.

It is at that point while standing on the show-room floor beside the last black-with-red M695 my dealer firmly assured me that M695 is going to be in production until 2010. and that I have nothing to worry about because he could get me one any day. With sigh of relief  I continued my obsessive saving of money and a plan to try it again sometime in autumn.

Today my dealer informed that 695 as it is known will be available until the end of 2008.
And starting with 2009. it will be fitted with new 696 engine.
He said that these info are sort-of official. (didn’t say anything if there will be price change)

Anyone heard something similar?

I wouldn’t mind that extra 1 cc…

Cheers

It would be a way for Ducati to play it safe until they're sure the new style has been accepted. OTH the 696 has had record sales and from a commercial standpoint that probably is enough to move all monsters to the new design. My guess is the old style monsters (695 and SxR) might stick around, but not for long.

Once the official word is out that the old style will disappear, one would think you'd still have some time to find & buy one of the last models.

I would be shocked, no stunned to death, if Ducati updated the "classic" 695 with a new engine now that the 696 is available.  There is absolutely no business case for it.  Your dealer is on crack.

I suspect you will be able to find new and practically new 695's for some time, though.

I'd find a different dealer. That guy hasn't a clue what he's talking about. From everything I've read and seen they are finishing out a parts run, when the 695 is sold out it's gone. As far as the 696 engine in the 695 frame.... I don't think it would even fit. The two engines are designed for different frames.

Thats the best news ever !
it would mean Ducati bows down and takes it hard for the 696 design  [clap]
But I really really doubt it.
Too many people seem to be ok with it.
I´ve been to a meeting with 200 Ducs on the weekend and I liked em all...just not the 696...but what do i know..
I would go to that dealer and ask for that info in writing...really...and then buy the "classic" one
Actually, if you think about the classic sport line, an updated monster with the original design would fit in perfectly fine and can run alongside the space invaders

I was talking to my dealer about this the other day, and the dealers here in Australia have been told that there is no further shipments of the 695 coming in, there will be a few here and there, but no confirmed supply.
and the model will be removed form the line up late this year/early next year

but as he was saying to me, the 695 he has in the showroom that people have to walk past to get to the 696, even with $1000 knocked off the price he can't get people to even look at the 695.

The buying public have voted with there feet and there $$$, the 696 is a huge hit (at least here in Australia)

I am not to sold on the new frame design of the 696. You can throw things at me now but I love the style of frame that we have now.  The frame is the focal point of the Monster.  Thats just my .02.

I would hope that if they do go with the new frame design all around that they offer some models with the old frame for as long as they sell.

Don't get me wrong the 696 is a good looking bike, but it just dosen't get my blood running like the current style does.
