My 696

So far:

Termi Kit ( Exhaust, ECU, Airfilter)
Competition Works Tail kit - painted flat black
Painted the heat shields flat black
Removed the Mickey Mouse stock mirrors & replaced with barend mirrors.
ASV Gold Shorty levers (on order)

So far the Termi kit has really made the bike a ton nicer than stock. The CW tail kit is a bit of a bugger getting put together. The tail light thingie is not very sticky on the paint I put on. I had to put a little goopie glue on to get it so stick.

I screwed up with the paint I used. I used the high temp BBQ paint. Don't do that. It looks nice but it gets damaged too easily unless you heat it up after it is dry. There's not enough heat to cure it properly. I am going to clean them off and put some flat enamel paint on. We'll see how that works.

I kept the 15T sprocket because well, I haven't felt the need swap it out. I commute in rush hour but haven't really felt that the 14T would do much for me.

I need more stuff for it. I was thinking of building a custom exhaust for it - kinda like the Exbox. It would be a one off, I'm not looking to sell them. I also am going to get the exhaust pipes ceramic coated in and out. I'm not sure if I am going to get the DP seat or wait for someone to make one that doesn't crack my nuts. I'll get around to getting the reflectors taken off on of these days... Oh, and the front shroud and emissions can...

So anyone else find any good 696 specific stuff or done anything else fun with it?

Your bike is looking great!  [thumbsup] I love to see more and more 696's on here. I don't want to steel your thread so I'm just going to drop you a link to mine. I'm currently having my touring seat modified so it will slope up in the front. To keep my boys from getting smashed. Good luck with the mods.

Mad Duc,

That looks nice.  Now I know what my red 696 will look like when I can afford the CW fender kit and the CF pipes.  How long did it take you to install the CW fender kit?  Are the bar end mirrors more difficult to see out of than stock?  I do think they look much better.

Mad Duc,

Congrats on the bike, looks great.  Have to admit that the red looks much better in person - I already had my heart set on dark before I saw it....

About the paint, check out my thread http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=11098.0.  I have comments there about paint.  I've had my cans painted for several weeks now, no issues.  You can however go the power coat way...  Murdered has done it, I'm planning on it...

Milk Run

Love it.
I have 450 miles on my red 696. Thanks for the ideas.

Since you mentioned the DP Seat, I have it and I recommend it.
It slightly reduces the nut sack smashed into the tank feature of this bike.

I purchased the DP Tail Tidy and I would recommend against it.
The license plate holder is for Euro plates, so I have to get a die grinder
and cut it down and make it fit.

Pikesonce

Looks good. You should also paint the exhaust brackets and the headlight bracket. Very easy to remove. I did mine flat black and it looks really good. Can't wait to get my termi's on.....

Let's see some pictures of all of these 696. Since a lot of the guys on here don't want anything to do with the new style monster, we'll just start our own thread with pics and all.

So the DP seat does not completely eliminate nut smashing?
Could you put a percentage on how much LESS pressure is
exerted on ones junk once switched. Sorry for the hijack.

& MM - I took a bunch of ideas from your thread. I was just about to get the DP tail kit when I saw your thread and got the CW one. I would like to paint the "wings" for the passenger pegs black. I'm not sure about powercoating vs. painting only because I like to do the work myself. I am working on maybe powercoating them myself. A friend and I were talking about getting the powercoat paint gun & doing them and a bunch of other parts ourselves. I also am looking into anodizing stuff too but haven't googled that yet.

CW fender kit was installed 3 times in about 2 hours. The directions are crap. We weren't paying attention and installed the seat release backwards - there's a notch on the one side of the seat post thingie that has to match the release side, installed the key thingie wrong, pinched wires for the tail lights & turn signals, blew a fuse... A pain in the ass that could have been avoided had we had better directions and put some thought into what we were doing. Oh, and if beer wasn't involved. That didn't seem to help either.  [drink] If someone would make a quick video of the install and put it on youtube it would have been easy.

Bar end are tons better than stock. I am using the convex ones vs. flat. It's great for seeing around you about 30'. Beyond that and you can see something there but can't really tell what it is. It's good for situational awareness for everything except for cops. Local guys run low profile lights so it's hard tell cop vs. civvy. Also it's quite hard to judge distance with them.
