Steering Damper for a monster

i have a d/p one that mounts across the front of the tank. mine allows you to lift the tank without removing anything and it's adjustable for resistance too. dunno about dragonworlds mate, just how firm would he have it for him not to be able to turn the thing? crikey!  mine is set on the fourth click of 20 so there's slight resistance, but, steering dampers are used for lots of different reasons and the most common is to mask a poorly handling or misbehaving bike. Mine is there to minimise unwanted steering input from wind that buffets at higher speeds. i found i was hanging on too firm and fighting the input from the wind which was upsetting my balance, with the damper i can relax my grip lots and there is no (well, almost no) unwanted input from my body being blown around. makes my riding smoother and i carry more corner speed because of it.

Good Point Loony ,IMO the monster needs no damper for the street ,the monster has been an excellent machine more stable than my 999 in some situations, its only now its miss behaving  as my ability to ride it is getting better, Now I am asking it to do things its not happy doing . its for a few reasons that I am going this road 1 being wind buffets when the front gets light the other being head shake out of corners another under power for direction change she's very . on the street it will be wound right back don’t see a need for it, Riding a monster at the level that your having power head shake problems should be left for areas that have lots of space for some pleasant cross country riding if it goes pear shape

Is that Ohlins the one off the Paul Smart? Looks good but pretty big in that spot.

The one I have - Arrow, is a fair bit smaller and it has progressive damping. i.e. as slow speeds it is easy to steer (stops you hitting those damm Lancers  ) even when it is fully wound up.

As to road riding - I have found that for commuting, yep no need, but if you take the bike on a road and give it a bit, say the Old Rd, around corners then you will love the damper - takes the sting out of the bumps on our crappy roads. Next thing to note that when you actually make it to a Turismo you will find it is fantastic as you can ride hard and fast and the bike feels like it is on rails.... No shit. At Turismo speed you need all the help you can get and the Damper is a must have, not a nice to have bit of bling [moto]

Heh, go and try some Post Classic racing and see how some of the older 2 strokes used to carry on. 

In particular those evil bastard triples from the Kawasaki mob. No steering dampers there, just extremely big fore arms and a large capacity nappy for 200k +  tankslappers.

Thanks Rusty that was my thinking. But it is usually manageable at the speeds I travel at - would cut down on fatigue I would have thought.
