Glossy Black Exhaust Coating on 70's bikes

What is the glossing black exhaust coating on 70's bikes like this one in the picture?  Is it some sort of powdercoat or paint?  Many Japanese bikes also had a glossy black covering that looks the same and has held up all the way to the present.

I thought they only came in flat.

But yea, it could only be high temp spray paint (which doenst come in gloss AFAIK) or ceramic. Regular gloss paint would chip of with that kind of heat.

Black chrome, AFAIK.

That Norton could be black nickel plating, as the Brits loved to nickel plate stuff....

I don't recollect ceramic coatings being available in the 70's

A lot of Japanese bikes did come with black chrome exhaust.  It was popular back then, people used black chrome on car door handles and other stuff like that.  Now ceramic coating seems to be popular.
 
I have a set of ArcFab slip-ons with ceramic coating - 2 years, 7000 miles and they still look like new.

I did a search on "Black Chrome" and it does seem to be a viable coating for exhausts.  I wonder why it is not used now days.  The bikes I see it on are all at least 30 years old and it has held up well. 

Are your ArcFab slip-ons a gloss or matte color?  Are they black?  Any pics?  Thanks.

I think all moto exhausts are now stainless steel, to comply with emissions requirements regulations on how long (miles/years) that emissions related equipment will stay functional.

I know cars have the mileage regulations.

Favorite exhaust/header coating from years ago that gives the exact same Super Gloss appearance is porcelain.  Unfortunately very few people do it anymore.  The other ceramic coatings used today instead for black are usually a semi-gloss or semi-flat.

Here's the only picture I had handy.  As you can see the slip-ons are matte black, but you can get glossy ceramic coating.

Jeff that looks like somewhere in the Mid-Atlantic states.  Was that picture taken at the Italian Motofest held in Shepherdstown, WV?
