Help! What do these controls do? (pictures)

Hi guys,

There are three controls on my monster that I still can't figure out, so I was wondering if you could help me?

Firstly, the "P" on the ignition. What does it do? And how do I access it? (because I cannot for the life of me get the key to turn to the "P" position)

Secondly, this dial to the right of my left handlebar switch? It obviously adjusts something, but I can't figure out what.

And lastly, this switch on the top of my right handlebar switch? I can't figure out what this does either.

Any help would be much appreciated.

1. P turn the key to P and you will have parking light (shitty way to drain your battery)
2. our bikes don't use a choke but it's very similar to it , it's used to raise rpm on cold start
3. thats the kill switch

The "Kill" switch is a handy one to get used to using !! 

Imagine a clutch malfuction, and you are unable to disengage! Or worse a throttle jams open ??

Its no accident that the switch can be reached without taking either hand off the bars or letting go of any of the levers! 

Just shoot the thumb out and the bike is neutralized. 

It helps too if you have a sticky clutch and neutral can be difficult to get, so instead of jumping up and down on the gear lever just "kill" the motor and neutral will be a breeze with no damage to selectors and stuff inside. With the money you can save on not having to fix stuff you can buy more  .

Yes thanks Dragon.  Didn't know about these uses for the kill switch.  I just like hitting other people's switches and watching them scratch their heads!   


I have first hand experience of that dratted park light.  It's only a smidgeon of a turn from the lock position.  I did it one evening.  Came back to bike after 12 hour nightshift to dead battery - had only had the bike a week and didn't know what I'd done.  Why do bikes need a 'park' light anyway??

I know what you mean heatherp I do that to a friend of ours, cause he has a tendency to hit your kill switch when you are riding along the bastard      

+1 dragon on the kill switch and with finding neutral I will remember that one

I'm trying that with Dos next time we ride! that is an important skill to have!

The kill switch flick is a good one when your racing too! 

You get them the first time coming into the braking area of a corner and then the second time when they see you coming and miss their brake lever when they try to cover the switch. 

Leads to some interesting tactics whilst racing, looking out for a commando attack on your R/H handlebar.

That's like mates of mine(yeah, OK, so I did it once or twice) that used to swim above you when diving and turn your air off !! either that or they would unclip your flippers...bastards !!
