I wanted to love the EXO-1000

I'm also looking for a new helmet.  I used to have EXO-1000, until my crash w/ a car last year.  So I can attest to its ability to keep my head injury free.  Hell, I didn't even felt the impact to the pavement.  Only came to know my head hit pretty hard due to big scratches / dents on the shell.

I'm very tempted by the HJC IS-16 model.  It's quite light compare to the EXO-1000 (4+lb!).  And I could careless about the pump.  IS-16 also costs about 1/2 the price of the EXO-1000.  Biggest turn-off for me is that the IS-16 is only DOT certified.  Interestingly just about all other HJC models that I know of are both SNELL + DOT.  Makes me wonder why they do not do SNELL for IS-16?  (And that doesn't even means anyone has verified it would pass DOT test.  DOT certification is completely voluntary).  My similar reply already cause another DOT/SNELL/ECE debate on another thread, hopefully this won't start another.   [bang]  I just want to explain why I'm holding off on IS-16 and pointed out that HJC does, historically, have their helmet certified for both.

So far, I'm leaning toward another EXO-1000 Apollo in flat black to match my dark 696.
