Grabby stuff on the tank - does it help?

Been working on my body position while cornering, and realized after seeing some pics of myself that my OUTSIDE knee is usually not up against the tank when I'm hanging off.  This, of course, limits how far I can get off the bike (boy, seeing pics of yourself really makes a difference...)

I've read that scooting backwards on the seat helps (mine is the stock s2r 1K seat), but also that Stomp Pads or Tank Tredz make a big difference in being able to "lock in" with your outside knee.  Anyone try these products (or something similar) to good result?

Stomp grips makes a big difference.  While I don't use it on my street bikes, I have it on every track bike I've ever had.  It makes a world of difference.

The monster tank shape isn't great for locking off your outside leg.  You may find is that you don't want to lock of your knee as much as the inside of your leg.

Based on seeing photos of myself while cornering, I do seem to be locking in with the mid part of my thigh rather than my knee.  But I'm having trouble hanging off enough, seems like, and I'm wondering if that's why.  I'm gonna try the grippy stuff, while continuing to work on my body position.  That said, I think you're right, the Monster tank shape doesn't lend itself to locking one's knee in as easily as a sportbike tank.

Can that grippy stuff be removed from the tank without damage?

Stompgrip?  Yes.  It's just really sticky.  You may need to clean off the remaining goo afterward.  I don't know if that's the case with a dark tank w/o a clear coat, however.  I *assume*, but don't know that the other similar products work the same.

The Tech-Spec brand stuff can be removed without any residue.  In fact, it's re-usable as long as you place it on wax paper.  I just removed mine because I wanted to wax the entire tank.

I rode a friends bike in the city and it had a stomp pad on the tank.  I didn't use it at all in the turns because I was in the city and I won't push the limits on city streets.  Under braking though they made a HUGE difference.  You dont have to work at all to stay back in the seat.  It would save so much energy in your arms.

I have tech spec stuff for the monster and like it a lot.   Got it from Matrix Motorsports (sponsor here).  I didn't use the center pad but the side ones are shaped nicely for the bike and make a big difference.

Put the Tech Spec on, and it does seem to help.  I can lock in better now, especially when I'm wearing leathers.  But I've also made some adjustments to my pre-load/ride height, so the bike feels...different now.  Still dialing it in.  But no question the Tech Spec makes a noticeable difference.
