new to the site

I'm brand new to the site. I live in Phoenix, Az. I've been riding motorcycles all my life. Started with dirt bikes as a kid, sport bikes during m college years and now that I'm getting older I've been riding Harleys. I briefly owned a 916 about 5 years ago and am entertaining the idea of getting a monster. I just figured it's in between the total cruising attitude of a Harley and the wild ride of the 916. Since i have been searching for a clean used monster I figured i could get some insight as to the best models and years to be focusing my search on. Any input would be appreciated.

Good luck in your search for a Monster.  There's a wide variety out there, are there particular ones you are leaning towards?

I'm leaning toward one of the earlier years with the 900cc engine. I saw a 2000 for sale with 12k miles asking $4500. Is there anything I should be careful of in those years? Obviously I would like to spend as little as possible in the beginning because I'm not sure how often I will actually ride it. I figure I'll put 2,000 mimles a year on it because it won't be my only bike. Any advise is appreciated.

There's a lot of M900 fans here, I think you'd probably have fun with that model.

I don't know specifics about the different years of the 900 myself, but the General Monster Forum would be a good place to ask.
