I'm Elizabeth and I'm from just outside Anchorage, AK.  Currently own a dual-sport (BMW F 650 GS) but am planning on getting my Monster in the spring, after wanting one for ages it seems.  I've been riding about 3 years now and love it!  Looking forward to getting to know you all and learn a bit about the bike that will be joining our  (husband rides too and has a few bikes) stable in the spring.

welcome to the board AkLiz! you have an even shorter riding season than we do here in New England.
make sure and check with the womens board in the local club section.
and of course we look forward to pictures of your new bike (and the BMW too for that matter) [thumbsup]
Never wrestle with pigs. You both get dirty, and the pigs like it...

Welcome Elizabeth, nice to have another woman join us. [thumbsup]

I got to try out a rental F650GS, I had fun but it was a bit large for me.

Good luck with the Monster shopping! ;D

Thanks for the welcome :)  I'm already having fun monster-shopping...although our local dealer (The Motorcycle Shop...really!) would be happier if I just ordered the bike already.  It's so close to winter that I don't want to have to spend all winter staring longingly at two bikes I can't ride   [laugh]  Our season is normally mid-late April to early October, but it's been unseasonably warm (it was nearly 60 today!) and there might be a few more good weekends left...

Here's one of my favorite pics of me and the F...taken a couple of years ago somewhere between the Alaska/Canada border and Whitehorse, YT...

Liz, Welcome to the brood. I can't stand looking at a bike all winter so I live in Arizona.  (sorry)
Anyway, "...just outside Anchorage." Would it be Eagle River? I have an old college buddy lives there with his family. Also have a friend I use to work with here that moved up to Anchorage a few years ago...works at the airport as a mechanic.
Maybe someday I'll take in a visit. What a beautiful place!

Someday we'll move somewhere where we're not looking at our bikes for half the year :)  I'm a little farther out from Anchorage - I'm just outside Wasilla.  Eagle River would be nicer, although during the summer I enjoy the 50-odd mile commute.  There is some great riding to be had up here  :D

AkLiz, I have to get to the 49th before I get any older! I write for a MC magazine called Moto-Euro and we had a piece about "dual-purpose" touring up there. KLR's and such. Sure would like to try this out next summer! Who knows? I'm on the Monster Forum, AZDRA, as DG. Feel free to PM anytime or post to us. Our prez' was raised in AK and he is one "adventerous" individual.  DG

Hi DG!  I had some trouble finding your magazine online and would love to read the article!  You should definitely head up here some summer...there's some truly great riding up here.
