Took my bike for a coupla spins around the block this morning, to warm it up prior to an oil change. Just stayed in my shorts an t shirt an told my daughter to turn off the telly and go play out the front with the other kids, we live in a very quiet cul de sac.
Not long home and CRASH BANG CRASH, I run out the front in a panic to see a Ford Territory crashed into a tree in the park at the bottom of our street. Fortunately no injured kids or neighbours.

Turns out a guy parked this car 300m up the street and forgot the handbrake, it rolled down the street, thru the intersection I'd just ridden thru 4 times, down our street, thru the cul de sac, crashed thru a log fence and knocked over a tree 50m into the park !
Fortunately, somehow, nobody injured and I just think shite, somehow you've got to keep the eyes in the front, back and sides of your head alert and focussed all the time you just never know when somethings going to come out of left field and wipe you out. And keep the kids inside.

I'm feeling a mixture of horror at what could have been, and relief that no one was hit and gonna have a couple of drinks to settle down.

nothing unusual

my oil changes are often after a ride back home again as its nice and hot , short trips dont really warm the oil too much

and as you have found a lot of incidents are close to home when not wearing much gear

I have some postie bikes and a trip around the back streets after doing some work and a 4wd tried to take me out in the back street after not working out which house they were looking for

speaking of handbrakes , guy from work was at a customers house fixing the dishwasher and his van rolled down the driveway into the customers garage , now that was an awkward conversation lol
i dont care if you have been a mechanic for 10 years doing something for a long time does not make you good at it, take my gf for an example shes been walking for 28 years and still manages to fall over all the time.

my ex-girlfriend did this to my car!! she parked it in a sloping supermarket car park, left it without handbrake and went shopping, she came back to find my car not where she left it and started to panic about it being stolen till the security guard at the bottom of the car park saw her face and hollered out to her.

the car managed to complete a full u turn at a radius of about 30 metres missing everyone and everything, security said everyone just stood still and watched it including her, and my beloved car came to a halt when it found those big round steel poles they bend up to make the trolly return bays out of!!! a heck of a lot of damage too :(

lesson is, ALWAYS USE A HAND BRAKE!!

Saw a case of this just last night in the local shopping centre carpark.  A car rolled out of it's spot backwards into a small 4WD.  Fortunately no one hurt, just two bent bumpers.

Also, I was a victim of this about 18 months ago when picking up the car after a service at the local mechanic.  Ironically it was delayed because of a wait for parts to overhaul the brakes and we were there to pick it up when the job was finished.  We stood at the counter discussing what had been done when a small tray backed ute rolled out of the auto electrician next door, it's steel tray gouging a hole in the front pax side guard and folding back the front edge of the front pax side door.  The auto electrician had parked it with the hand brake on but the brake was u/s and hadn't kept the car where it should have.
Ironically the owner of the dodgey ute just rolled up, picked up the vehicle and drove home without any consequences.  The auto elec was left with a substantial insurance claim and we were left without a car for a few weeks while it was being fixed.  As you can appreciate we weren't happy.

He must of had a laugh, at everyone elses expense.

I was not laughing when I rode my bike to work this morning (first ride since oil change) and discovered the RHS of bike and my leg covered in oil because I forgot to put the filler cap back on  [bang]  [bang]  [bang] due to my routine being upset on Sunday arvo . . . or just being an idiot . . . no no its definately the Ford driver's fault, he made me do it !
