i got a pair of the tan pants off of ebay, a little below msrp.

i have not ridden in them yet.

so far this is the situation, they are cordura 500 not as good as leather but better than jeans, comes with substantial hip and knee armor in it ce.  that is good.

i can see that the tan will show dirt over time, i just didnt' want another pair of black pants.

they have two slash pockets zippered closed with large tabs to pull, a back pocket with zipper, and two cargo pockets closed with velcro on the legs, i personally think the cargo pockets would only be good for carrying things you may or may not care about losing, they appear to hold things well but  without a full zip they are not perfect, comes with web type belt with snap clip closure.

size small is around a 31 inch waist and the inseam is long at 32 inches.  since they are unisex pants i figure they do this so that it fits women well for someone like me with a 30 inseam they are a little too long.  the good thing is that the lower 2 inches of the pants are just cordura fabric with a velcro area.  basically if you bring it to a good tailor they should be able to shorten them by 2 inches pretty easiy and it will look like its factory if the tailor is good, i'll get back to you after i drop it off at the tailor.

the thing you should know is that they are unisex so the rise on teh pants is comparatively short for men's pants, they split the difference between a women's rise and a men's rise pants. so that is somethign to know.  for most i dont' think this will be an issue but somethign to consider if you are thinking of getting them.  definitly try on bmw unisex pants before getting the bmw city pants are constructed in a similar manner.

compared to the bmw venting machine pants that have a 31 inche waiste and around 30.5 inseam these pants are cut a little fuller so they are a bit baggier but not much.. compared to the bmw city pants they are longer by about 1.5 inches.

i got these bc i want to be able to convert to shorts when going somewhere and put on pair of sandals and walk around.

when converted to shorts, let's be honest they are not the "coolest" looking shorts they look like cargo shorts that are not exactly in style but they elimate the need to bring extra clothes to have to find a place to change you just zip the legs off. these are much like the zip off pants that rei and such sell for fishermen.

i got them bc i feel that for the socal weather they could be very convenient for just chilling in.  they are not waterproof and from internet reviews they are not the best venting or coolest pants, the venting machine pants are better.  but that is not the point of these pants, they are so that you have a pair of shorts to convert to for ease of use.  and for that they appear to be perfect.

do they have good bmw quality and construction? yes
are they perfect pants? no.
are they perfect shorts? no.
are they a good combo of both so that you don't need to bring both? i believe they are. '

yes as you can guess i have a ton of bmw gear though i have no bmw bike, their stuff just fits really well.

Thanks for the write up.   [thumbsup]

A couple BMW riders at the Lee Parks clinic last weekend had them.  They looked nice.

I like my mesh pants, but they are black, so they still absorb a lot of heat.  Plus, when touring on the ST I don't get any air on my legs.  It would be great to have a lighter colored armored pant for touring.

They are definately on my list for new gear to check out.

no problem, like i said these are very very specialized pair of pants, from when i find out how the airflow is when i ride in them i'll say so from what i read its not really good for that.

like i said they seem to only be good for the situations where u need shorts
