Hey,

I have been reading various threads on replacing the front fork on the Monster 696.  Has anyone found a good but cost effective solution?

-Is it best to swap the fork out or go the cartridge modification route?

-If I go the fork swap option what do you guys recommend?

-If I go the fork modifications route what's the best course of action there?

Thanks!!

wannabfast

depends on your budget,
you can get ohlins front forks off an 1100s for like 1500 or so, make sure the brake caliper mounts like like what you have

or get the adjustable showas from the 1100, 848 or 1098/1198, as long as it has a 50mm diameter, it will fit without modifications
11' M796, SC project GP slip-ons, 1100DS cams, BMC air filter with modified airbox cover, asv levers, 14t front sprocket

Raux

tons of options.

but yes, budget is everything

Yes the most cost effective/bang for your buck is to swap them out with a used pair of SBK forks from a 848/1098.

If you go cartridge you will save money but you get what you pay for.  You will feel an improvement but there not going to be near as good as the SBK forks.

If you have the money spend it on the fork swap, it will transform your bike I've spent over 3.5K in mods on the 696 and nothing comes close to improving the bike as much as the SBK forks did.

you can install a cartridge but the forks are still unadjustable. go with the SBK front end  [drink]
