Tweaking loudness on exhausts - possible?

Dear Gents,

I have a pair of Arrow exhausts that were way too loud for me when the baffles were out.

With the baffles in it seemed too muted (the dry clutch clanging is louder :D ).

Is there a way to tweak the loudness by say drilling holes in the baffles? More holes = louder?  Would engine performance be affected?

Appreciate thoughts and advice.

thats the ticket right there!! if you do some searching you may find a thread about this somewhere. i recall people were cutting sections and hoels in db killers and comparing the changes and what produced the "right" amount of loudness.

good luck with it, just start with small changes, you dont wanna make it 99% of no db killers the first time!

Thanks, "thought" for the link.

There is a post there:

"On my Arrows I ended up cutting the db killer down to about a 1/3 its original length.  So just the flange and two inches or so of tubing.  It is about half as loud as straight through now, and retains most of the depth and smoothness in the tone that we all love.  It is pretty quiet down low, and perks up when you get on the gas.  I find it to be a nice balance.

It's so easy to test that I'd just cut the baffles down a few inches at a time and see where you think a fair balance between neighbors and mayhem occurs."

I am wondering what is the difference between reducing length and punching holes?  What is the effect on back-pressure which I read is essential for the bike to retain power?

The pipe with no db killer has plenty of back pressure.

You're adding back pressure, or restriction, with either method of modifying the insert so it won't matter.
