On down to AMS Dallas to ride me one of those fine 848's, all dressed up in white.   What an incredible beast!!!  Awesome handling, fits my 5-9 frame perfectly.  I will be getting one of these in the not to distant future...what an absolute joy and very easy to dance with.  My S4RS is a joy to ride as well, but the 848 is a whole different playing field altogether.  My observations compared to the Monster...the 848 has nowhere near the low to mid grunt of the Monster, but I suspect it exceeds the Monster in the upper ranges of the Rev counter.....the 848 mirrors are pretty but nearly useless...I think it needs Termi's and the DP ECU.....needs a gel seat.....one needs to be in my garage.  I need to ride the 848 beasty at some track days and take it to Deal's Gap.

I am sure there will be plenty of sweet deals on kitted used 848's in the months ahead.

The 1098s is currently on special offer until 15th August in Spain with the Full 70mm Termignoni kit inc. DP ECU & Filters as a free gift.

Makes you wonder how many 1098´s there are stock piled that they can´t sell.

Well, if they would throw in a free Termi kit....I suppose I could be satisfied with a mere 1098. ;)

Damn Bud,

Some of us don't need that kind of temptation. Do you think they could get me a black one?

What's your new ride? Maybe a 1098s?

You know they have that crazy low financing on the 1098s ( your credit must be of good quality ) . I don't know if the" R " is included. Would have been nice not to have layed out $43 and change if I could have got that low financing and used GE's money. But Centerline I must ask, you loved your S4RS . Have you read any of the write ups on the 848 ? I guess if you liked it that is all that matters.

I rode my R today for over 100 miles in the " hills ."  What did I do when I got home , I got #1 S4Rs out and went for a ride. It still gives me a thriil even after riding the " Red Beast ." You'd think after riding 166 hp and then 130 hp it would be a let down , but the pipes sound all together different, I'm still breaking in the  " R " and they are such different bikes. Both a blast. I'd miss the S4Rs .

Good luck with what ever you decide.

I just love that dry clutch  ;D . But I agree the white is a sexy beast
About the same time you're dragging your knees through a series of tight left-right-handers on Sunday afternoon, some guy in white shoes is sweating a 3-foot putt. Go figure.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love/enjoy my Monster....it is that the 848 has such an incredibly poised feel to it when riding.  My Monster just feels sort of....psycho, but most certainly in a good way, if that makes any sense. ???

When I left my bike for it's last service I got a pretty good ride on a stock 1098 demo up on the BR Parkway which I had just ridden on my bike to get to Ashville. I really enjoyed the demo ride, a pretty spirited one at that, but it wasn't what I'd call a life changing event. I just looked up the specs on the 848 as compaired to the 1098 and see only 11 lbs. difference in the weights. I don't think I'd give up the extra HP of the 1098 for it's little brother considering the chassis are the same (?) and the weight so close. And the kitted S4RS is just as capable in the twisty stuff and very nearly as fast until you let the tack sweep past 8,000 rpm.

Don't get me wrong. I really like the new SB, but the kitted Monster is SOOOoo much more comfortable and nearly as capable when ridden near it limits.

If I were to spring for a new SB, it would most certinally have to be a fully kitted one, wheater it were a 848 or a 1098 and some taller bars to boot.

I guess it's just my "go big or stay at home" theory.
