696 Headlight bulb upgrade from Monsterparts

Two dogs

Anyone installed a set of these ?
I borrow my Wife's 696 to commute to work and ride home in the dark.
The headlight is pathetic  [thumbsdown]
I have used the PIAA upgrade on my S2R and its a cheap good upgrade.
So anyone using the bulb upgrade that Jeff sells for the 696 and is it an improvement ?
Oh and easy fit up ?

I have not used that one specifically, but I did once upon a time change to a brighter bulb. It was an Improvement but proved to be TOO hot for the wiring  [thumbsdown]

I now have a set of HID's and to be honest the headlight output still SUCKS...  [bang]

Whenever you upgrade your bulb you must not exceed the original wattage or you do indeed run the risk of frying your wiring  [thumbsdown] the best option in my experience is to change the colour temperature ,standard is around 3800 and optimal is 4500-5300 ,any higher and you get a very white light but lose light volume.

 Eastern Beaver sells a kit that rewires the headlight with a relay and heavier wires that dramatically increases the light output. The stock wiring is too lightweight(har-har).

+1. The BEST mod for seeing better (as oppose to be seen better) is to install relay & heavy duty wiring, taking power out directly from the battery, and add high wattage bulb.

Or, you can buy parts and make your own wiring. That's the route I'd go.(Relay + custom heavy duty wiring + High wattage blub.)

I bought these stuff from Daniel Stern Lighting for my daily driver, and have been very happy with it. (I HAVE TO drive 45 min to 1 hour every night.)  Haven't done it yet to Monster (haven't decided whether to keep the stock reflector lamp or fit 7" round Cibie I have installed on my car ...), but I'll do it sometime in this year.)

I prefer to make my own wiring.
It takes time. It takes patience. It takes faith. It takes certain level of understanding in electronics. (But not that much...) It takes artistic sense. (to route the wiring loom, where to mount relay, even stripping wire and crimping the terminal takes artistic sense, if you ask me.) The one ( builder) must have concentration, courage, that goes without saying. But more importantly,... the one must be both a mathematician and a poet ,a mechanic / electrician and an artist at the same time. Working on your own project is to philosophers and warriors, buying a finished product is to accountants and merchants.

The blueish white light DOES NOT help you to see better. It actually decrease your ability to see. Our eyes are nearly twice as sensitive to blue light as green or red. That's why when you install P*AA (or whatever with blue filter) they look brighter. They are not putting out any more light than regular 60/55w. (actually slightly less, because of the blue filter.)

Not only that, blue / purple light makes it very difficult to focus. (this is because the way our eyes are constructed. Simply put, "red" and "green" are focused far behind the "blue" light, much closer to the eye's focal plane. So, in inside of your eyeball, the light with blue wavelength are more strongly "bent" than " red" or "green" light, causing the "blue" image to focus in front of eye's focal plane.)
This is why HID sucks in the rain. (or, even when it's not raining, they are worse than stock.)
