Hopefully this is the appropriate place to post.  Just wanted to post the fruits of my labor.  Got the new skins on today. What do you guys think?  I think at this point I am officially done modding this bike. I'm picking up an 05 999s on Monday for my new track bike (and to just satisfy my long-time, insatiable obsession with the 999, even after owning an 1198), so I'm not so naive to think I'm done spending money...

Mods to this bike are:

V&H CS One exhaust
carbon fiber/black powder coated headlight frame/bucket
CRG Hindsight mirrors
K&N Filter
Rexxer ECU flash
Speedymoto frame/axle sliders
14T front sprocket
Throttle Tamer
Oberon signals
Competition Werkes Fender Eliminator

Great job! You can be proud.  [thumbsup]

dude, that thing looks sick. I love the rear cowl.  [thumbsup]  I want to do a black or dark gray on my bike with the red frame as well - the only thing that sticks out like a very sore thumb to me, and this is because the same was true on my bike, is that the fender eliminator kit needs very badly to be painted in a matte or hammered black.  I used the rustolium (i think) hammered black on mine and it basically disappeared, matched the subframe texture and color perfectly.  it's a 10 dollar mod that takes all of 20 minutes and makes the kit go from completely unfinished looking to basically undetectable.

just my 2 cents, but it was the first thing I noticed. Once I painted it, it actually really annoyed me that it didn't come that way from CW.

edit: also, what tail light is that?  it's really interesting looking - I kind of really like it.

Thanks man, yeah my favorite part is the white on the cowl and the center line on the tank.  I love the retro Ducati logo as well, but I've seen other guys with the same idea.  Doesn't make me like it any less, but it just makes the white stand out to me as the thing that makes this bike different.  Good point on the fender eliminator -- now that you point it out, I think I might have to hit it with the black enamel rattle can.  Regarding the tail light -- honestly I think it's stock, but perhaps it isn't?  Previous owner never mentioned he did anything with it, but maybe he did.  Sorry I can't help you on that one.

Bike looks awesome!
Thats not the stock taillight though.

Yep, not the stock style, but not too bad either.

IMO, the stock style light would look better. Change out would involve fiddling with that eliminator, which can be a PIA. I know because I have the same eliminator and have had to remove and reinstall it three times for various projects and it never got easier.

Agree, the eliminator needs to be painted. I first painted mine with PlastiDip and have since stripped it and used Krylon satin black. The PlastiDip was just too fragile, especially on the edges, and did not stand up to my cleaning products.

But this is all nit picking, cause the bike is stunning.

Is it possible it's the stock taillight mounted upside down?

Good eye. I took another look and think you are correct.

Might be deliberate, or could be because of the fiddly eliminator kit.  ???

Man, tough crowd  :P

I know there are always things we COULD do.   But I just picked this beast up yesterday, so I trust it's going to start consuming my attention pretty soon.

I really don't have the money for all this...looks like I'm eating Ramen this month.

Nice work. Monster for the street, 999 SBK for the track.  [thumbsup]

Now you need a Hypermotard or Gran Canyon for dual purpose duties. [laugh]
