Akechi left the forum. He took offense it seemed. It's a shame. I like to make new members welcome. It can take awhile  for folk to understand the community culture, otoh, I think we should be generous to newcomers unless they're douche's. He seemed pretty genuine and enthusiastic to me.
We should reread the thread and reflect. I only refer to this thread, there might be other stuff I'm unaware of.

I was maybe a little blithe there but I really wasn't attacking his buying decision. I wasn't even thinking about the O.P when I posted. Someone else had to have been mean to him already.

Been thinking about this. Its been buggin' me.
Im glad this forum isnt like those forums. There are forums where cowards take cheap  shots because they're safely miles away. Its easy to be a keyboard warrior. In a past job, I received threats over the phone on occasion, but each time I caught up with the callers they weren't quite so tough when confronted face to face (pissed their pants actually). Now that nastiness didnt happen here but he got pressed unecessarily when sharing about his pride and joy imo.

A good example is the way some of us take the piss out of each other which can be misconstrued as insulting, but we are mates make the beast with two backsing around and having a good time (some of us aussies in particular). Im careful with that humour with people from other places and have had to clarify stuff via pm just in case I upset someone with my strange aussie ways. 
Sometimes there is serious debate which is important and all part of a healthy community, and we press our arguments and have it out, which is great. That being said, we should not slack off on keeping this a welcoming place. We get it, but should give newbies time to get the culture.

I would've cleared up my comment if I'd been on that day but he was too quick with the deactivate button. I agree for the most part but to some degree there has to be a little natural selection...
