These are the sources for my "I thought I heard that I read that the so and so" comment...still anecdotal but the people making the statements have some cred around here.

I was curious so I looked around for an S4R and "S" model rear shock, piggyback reservoirs and besides its absurd what the criminal eBay used parts mobs are charging for em.

Has anyone explored the feasability of rebuilding the Sachs shocks and replacing the spring with an upgraded one from Hyperpro or other such company? not cost effective?

If you are happy with stock shock and just want a rebuild/respring then maybe its worth it. Upgrading the spec is costly. I ended buying a Penske for nearly the same money.

The problem with shocks from other ducatis is they need nearly the same amount of money in the end to make them suitable for your bike.  AFAIK, the only directly compatible shocks come from hoop suspension monsters.  Those will likely all be shagged out...

Important: always check your battery filter and regularly change your headlight fluid.

The stock Sachs with a proper spring works and fresh fairly well.  RaceTech valve even better.  Problem is the chrome on the shaft tends to wear, so putting any money into it is probably money that should be spent on a better shock.
