Need some help getting the front wheel off.

After looking at it I don't see how the shaft that goes through the forks and rim comes out.  At least not without banging the hell out of it.  I am assuming that it is something simpler and I am just looking at wrong.  Does anyone have any advice or know where to find a write up?  I searched a little here and on TOB, but didn't have too much luck.

there is a tool to remove it. Its larger on one end, and you hit it from the left side and it comes out the right.

I found a screw driver with a hanle that fit perfectly around the lip of the axel, and all the way thorught the forks. and you can hammer it away like that. it shouldbe too tight, but it wont slide out easily either.

A socket works well too. I used a spark plug socket cause it got me in there further.

+ 1 on that. Or size up a socket that is slightly smaller then the hole in the forks, . & put a 6" extension on it. Tap lightly.

i keep the nut on the end and lightly tap the axle out far enough to pull it out from the other side by hand.

Nice.  But isn't he going to need a special tool to put it back in the rim?  Where do you get that tool from anyways?

Yea, the special tool is a mallet.

Special tool? As He Man states, use a mallet. Preferably a rubber one.
