Having lived in Fredricksberg VA for a while in the mid 1990s I can imagine your whole trip. I didn't have a bike back then.
After reading your post, I can't wait to get back there with a motorcycle.  I agree about putting the bike on a truck and driving it there. Traffic around DC is terrible anyways.
