Shock issue

So I'm swapping the rear shock on my 695 to one from an st2. I ordered one online and when I opened it today the banjo bolt on the reservoir was loose. Not off just loose , and there was some oil on the shock and in the package.   

I can also move the body around the inside of the internals of the reservoir (like its loose). I've never had one like this so don't know if it's normal.

Is this shock trashed without a rebuild now or is it ok?

Any idea how many miles on were on it when pulled from the ST?  Likely due for a rebuild given age and probable miles. And you may want to have it resprung and/or revalved depending on your weight and riding style.

At 30k+ it was way overdue for service. Huge improvement after, but I also had Ohlins internals swapped in, so I can't really compare apples to apples after the rebuild.

No idea on mileage . It's leaking what oil was left out of the reservoir. I'll drop it off at a local shop to have it rebuilt.  Thanks guys

It would be prudent to mount it up on the 695 and figure out which direction you want the hose fittings to point.
And figure out where and how you're going to mount the reservoir.
You may even find out that the hose isn't the right length.

Better to do all that now rather than after it's all charged up...

Ditto.  additionally, without knowing mileage or history you would have kinda to assume that it needs a rebuild even if it hadn't had a loose banio bolt and oil on the body.

Dropped it off today for a rebuild. Won't have to worry about it now
