Latest Spy pictures Ducati V4 Multistrada

I have to wonder why Ducati has to have a V4 powered Multistrada.  I wonder if it is a replacement for all the Multistradas including the Enduro model. I just don't see a reason to have a V4 powered ADV bike.  These photos show the bike doing some off road work.

For a true adventure bike why a V4? Clearly they can package it ok.
The idea of an eventual STV4 would be music to the ears of embittered ST owners mourning the loss of that model.
