Header and Permatex Ultra Copper

I just used Permatex Ultra Copper while putting the exhaust back together.  The instructions state that the silicone takes 24 hrs to set, but does anyone know how long after application to wait before running the bike?

The reason for dis/assembly of the exhaust system was that the mounting flange on the horizontal header pipe of my '05 S4R was cracked and nearly separated from the header itself.  I think that perhaps the same vibrations that cracked the Marving (Spareshack) midpipe bracket (that mounts to the right side case) might have been the the culprit.  (A while back, I posted about welding a new bracket onto the Marving midpipe.  The bracket is "s" shaped and allows for insertion of a grommet.)

Thanks to Rameses for the welding fix of the header!   [thumbsup]   [bow_down]

I've used it on my tractor and put it into service right away.

Heat will speed the cure, so I would start it and let it warm up and then cool. No large throttle openings will keep the pressures low.

Should be good to go if it's going to work.

That part is key.  I still remember being too anxious and blowing out the permatex I used  [bang]

I'm dont really understand where you are using it.

There are some restrictions with the permatex ultra copper. I've had it work AND not work. Fact is that it all depends an the location. If you're trying to put it between the slip fit connection 2 inches away from the front (horizontal) exhaust connection to the head, it wont work. You'll blow it out in about 4 days and will then have to spend time cleaning it up.

Its good for all connections that arent slip fit.
