In regard to your rear shock, talk with a shock builder and get them dimensions (X,Y) for the upper shock point, lower shock point and all in relationship to the pivot point itself.  Also amount of travel, weight, overall length, compressed length, etc.  Make sure they can build a shock for you that will work in your configuration before you get everything welded solid. 

One thing about rear suspension, trellis frames and 180 series rear tires -- you want the rear suspension to work.  There isn't enough sidewall flex to make the bike work otherwise. Not much of a problem on a HD or others due to frame flex.  I tried riding my MotoCreations DesmoDevil's as a hardtail -- it will toss you faster than you can imagine -- thus why I spend a small fortune doing shock development to get them to work as well as they do. (front and rear suspension in fact)

You can do like Stuart / FlightCycles did and mimic Supersport or MH900e shock points / geometry to use factory valved shocks to avoid the custom shock route.
