will a used speedometer work ?

I need some help. I smashed my speedo to pieces on my ducati 695 monster 2007. Can I use a used speedo on my bike. I can purchase a used one ,I just want to make sure it can be programmed to my bike.
I get a hundred different answers about using a used speedo . I think the dealers just want to sell me a new one to make more money. PLEASE HELP I NEED TO RIDE

I don't have any FHE, but I believe you can program gauges if you have the red key.

My understanding is that the red key will only mate to a virgin speedo.  The process is a one time shot, so used ones will only help you if you also get the other bike's red key and ECU, too.
