2001 Monster 900ie 8800 miles

Before: Cold Start, Pull cold start lever all the way as normal Slightly crack throttle and bike starts runs at high idle cleanly as bike warms up turn off fast start and ride off happily.  Been fine like this for a year or more. Recently the issue started.

Issue: Cold Start, Pull cold start lever all the way as normal Slightly crack throttle and bike starts stumbles and stalls. Seems rich or like only running on cylinder. As it warms up with me holding throttle open so it does not stall it clears out (3 minutes) and ride off runs pretty good with occasional stalling at stoplights while warm operating temperature.

Nothing has changed before this issue started, no new parts or anything. It does have a PCIII but have noticed no issues and its been on since I bought the bike.

Is there anything that needs maint on the throttle bodies like dacarbonization or synching? It had a major service before I bought it. Looking for directions to look in. I am savy with wrenches and am really looking for common areas to look for before I just go down the list and eliminate things. Anyone else experience this type of issue?

TIA, cozzb :D

check your spark plugs to see if the bike is running too rich. When you pull on the cold start lever you are opening the throttle (that's what the lever does) you should not need to turn the throttle as well.
how long has it been since the bike has been tuned? Throttle bodies do need to be syncronised but should not effect starting like you are describing.
do you have a mouse nest in the airbox? is there something blocking air flow?
Do you have a bad fuel injection sensor? TPS?

Things to look for.
rich or lean
restrictions to air flow
sensors coroded

good luck

Update:
Checked Air filter, clean and mouse free. Checked fuel hoses under tank, none kinked or pinched and vent hoses fine and routed correctly.

Pulled plugs, bike has been sitting since sunday. Verdict- Both plugs soaked with fuel and still wet looking and I did not even turn the key on tonight..

This bike is fuel injected but I see no FI light or error light. sprayed off plugs with brake clean and sanded electrodes as I dont have spare pair. Tried to start, Bike is rich and smokes black until I clear out with throttle. I am going to get a set of plugs hopefully tomorrow but I have a feeling it is beyond plugs. Is there a way to check for error codes or does it save codes? I could sweep the tps with a volt meter but without an oscilloscope I dont imagine I would see much. Any other tips?

first verify you have spark and then if you do I would do two things.
1. inspect your cylinder head temperature sensor for corrosion, look for green stuff on the connections both sides.

2. disconnect the power commander, try the bike with the commander removed from the system.
good luck

Will take the PC out of the loop tomorrow (I was thinking this but I know I need to do it.)

I will also check for these sensors. Are they one wire sensors?

Thanks for all the help thus far.

The cylinder head temp sensor is on your horizontal intake valve cover, it is often the culprit due to its exposed location.

AHHHH Okay will check it out and post results.

Thanks hopefully ill be  [moto] again soon and off the cruiser.... :'(
