Ever drag a hard part?

On the street or on the track?

Tonight I was coming home on the freeway, riding faster than I probably should have (it was nice going my own pace not being blocked up by traffic), and I came upon an interchange of freeways, About to make a left turn.  520 west to I-5 south for those in the area.

They just repaved last week it so I thought I would take advantage and not slow down very much from my 90.  At the speed I was going the turn was a lot sharper than I remember it being and I handled it by telling myself "just lean more, lean more, just a little more.. BlARGHFTP! what the fack!!" I heard scrape!  I saw sparks! I felt my bike touch the pavement!

My bike got wobbly.  By the time I straightened out I could still hear the song of the sausage creature fading away behind me.  The image of me rolling along the overpass, my bike chasing me and my head slamming into the barrier repeatedly came very vividly to my mind, and it gave me the willies.  I'm still a bit shook up even now.

When I got home I checked the bike out (dark out so I couldn't see well) and nothing showed any signs of scraping.  I'm almost 100% positive it was the left footpeg.

What else might have scraped? (Monster 696)

I ride like a Wuss so No but I only ride the street and its prob not a good idea to be riding that aggressively on the street
to drag parts unless you have some lowered bike like harley which prob scrapes all the time...

I only had it happen to me once and it was the outer part of my boot and foot peg that touched. I was on the way to work and I go through a gigantic new trucking terminal (largest in the midwest) all fresh concrete that they sweep and run a magnet over daily. Anyway I was doing 70 and swept through a sweet curve that ive been steadily getting more agressive with I felt my boot vibrate and then the peg drag, that was my first time touching on my S4. It startled me because I didnt realize how far over the bike was, I was zoned in on the curve and what was coming up. I knew the surface I was riding on was taken care of and was in full gear which is why I attempted something like that and it was awsome I need to get to a track sometime.

I dragged a toe once. it was rad.

I dragged a toe once... but, instead of envisioning my limp body tumbling into a barrier, I got to think about what it meant to go off the side of Red Mountain pass.  Anyone who has been to Ouray knows what I mean!

I've dragged a toe a couple of times and when I had the stock exhaust it used to touch down occasionally, but nothing other than that.

hm, i'm not sure on a 696, but i know that you can scrape the kickstand feeler on monsters. might take a look at that.

if not that, then i dunno...

I agree, most likely foot peg.  I dragged my foot peg once, scared the crap out of me... totally unexpected.

I've dragged the kickstand nub on the left and the rear brake lever on the right, both on the track.

Oh, and once my heel on the street (was pointing out potholes to a newbie behind me). [cheeky]

Cans...

toes...

and pegs...

in that order...only on the track!

The exhaust touching was remedied by suspension improvement and body position.

When the pegs started folding up under my dragging toes.

I got an SS for the track.

I've not had anything drag on my S4R. Even when fully cranked over on the edge of the tire. The rearsets probably help some, but I just don't see it ever happening - certainly not on the road. There is a great decreasing radius highway exit that I sometimes hit on the way to work. smooooooth blacktop. As fast as I feel I'm going round it (bout 75-80) I can't imagine pushing it any more. I did put a hole in the knee of my jeans once though. Fast enough for me!

I've only logged about 350 miles on the wife's Monster and haven't dragged a toe nor hard parts on it, but.....she drags toes a little too easily and uses it as a gauge as to when she needs to slow down a little. She rides with her balls properly on the pegs, so she's probably only 1/2" away from scrubbing hard parts with the width of her boot giving her just that little bit of warning. She also drags toe on her R1, though.

I've dragged toe, header, cans, sidestand, and center stand on my ST2 and I've dragged exhaust clamps on the Paso, but the only time I dragged anything other than a knee on the 748 was when I was sliding down the track from a lowside. Other than the lowside on the track, all dragging tends to be on the street.

Same thing here, when I drag toes & pegs, it's time for me to cool it off.  I'd say it was a peg or can.  I know on the older bikes the stock exhaust was the 1st thing to drag.

My wife's '01 has high-mount exhaust, so I'm guessing pegs would be the first to scrape.
