Didnt find any answers with the search function, but did find a couple of topics on google. Do I have a sticky solenoid or is this what ducati calls a "soft start" feature. I can hear the engagement of the starter and sometimes it stays engaged until the engine completely fires up. So far from what I have read, this is a feature and not a problem. Any feed back? Thanks much

What model and year is your bike? Older bikes like my '99 don't do that, but newer bikes (certainly the '07 695s) do.

Your starter engagement is controlled by computer on that bike.  If it still cranks after the engine starts, then you have a problem.

well i finally found what i was looking for... guess it helps to look at the owners manual. Ducati has a servoignition system that will crank the engine after tapping the start button. The duration of cranking varies with engine temp.
