Rim width is 4.5" and come with a 160  (6.3")  wide tire. Might be able to stick a 170 (6.7") on if there is enough clearance around the swingarm AND it clears the chain. You'd need ~5mm  (~3/32")  or more clearance on each side than on a 160.  Most times chain line clearance is what limits wider tires.  If it will physically fit I would'nt go more than 170 risking cornering stability and wet trackion.

The profile of the tire will be all wrong with the 170 on a 4.5 inch rim. It's made for a 160. Now widening the rim and inch, theres an idea.

I've run 170s on a 4.5 inch rim.

Works fine on an SS.

I don't know if there would be clearance issues on the 696.

Do 696s come with a 5.5 or a 4.5?

Seems to me the the profile of 170 tire on a 4.5" rim would be somewhere between a 170/5.5  and 160/4.5, probably closer to the stock 160/4.5.  As long as the front to rear track line does not get to far out in the corners it ought to be ok.
