Mike, There is going to be a black version.  I saw a picture yesterday on one of the news sites.  I couldn't find it just now, but perhaps someone else will post it.  I thought it looked best in black, but I always lean towards black.

I love hearing how the Monster's design is a classic and that engineers screwed up! You guys do know that the Monster was designed by going through a scrap bin and figuring out what fits right. The only thing that was probably designed was the fuel tank.

I am not sure if I like or hate it but I dont like the wheels on the 696, I do like the SSS on the 1100 though, the dry clutch is a plus, they were smart enough to put an oil cooler in this bike unlike the 696, the ohlins suspension and radials are a plus but they put an ohlins without compression adjustment in the back, and they are gonna charge 14K c'mon.

my biggest issue with the current monster is that the frame is flimsy, perhaps I am riding too hard but the bike doesnt feel stiff enough, mind you have had full race tech built forks and nice nice ohlins in the back, cranked ride height, etc. the bike handles great but it doesnt inspire confidense like some bikes. of course the argument could be had by saying that I should just buy a sportbike but I prefer something with a bit of comfort too it. so perhaps comfort and performance.

I dont know the new 696/1100 frame looks a beefier and a bit more rigid, can anyone with a 696 who rides aggressive atest to this?

I love the 1100 engine this new version has, but IMHO it is very ugly. It just doesn't quite capture the essence of the Monster. Granted I like the new components and upgrades the bike has (better brakes, looks less cheaply made).

No FHE, but the magazines are saying the 696 is the best handling Monster ever. I expect the same for the 1100.

Okay after looking at the pics of the 1100 Monster I noticed a few things. I like it a lot better than the 696 because of the better wheels, and single-sided swingarm. Yet I miss the trellis frame throughout the bike. Sure it looks more modern, but the older one was a classic. I want some feedback please....

Gaspar, Melchior and Balthasar kicked me out of the band..... they said I didnt fit the image they were trying to project.

I'd get one, but has to be the 'S'
Its everything that I want in a bike, Ducati  [thumbsup], low weight; 169kgs, good suspension, more than enough hp and torque and the monster ergos.
Reckon its going to be a bit expensive; NZ$20K for the 'S at a guess.
I might have to get a tinted visor so that no one can recognize me when riding it. :)

I'm in between the first to poll options. I do like it, but niether more nor less than the current Monster. I've had years to let the warmth blossom that I feel for the current design. But I do find the new one atttractive, more as a totally different bike though. The new one does nothing to take away the feeling I have for my Monster. I guess what I'm saying is that to me it is as much a the Monster as the Hypermotard is, they are both naked twins and the similarities end. Apples and oranges, I can like them both.

This poll is really not neccessary.  If you have to have a poll on whether something is cool or good looking then it probably isn't.

The superbike inspired single-sided swingarm on the new Monster 1100 looks rather bland next to the elegant swingarm on the classic S2R 800 and S2R 1000

Think back to the 999 if you honestly believe Ducati does not care. It was only produced for three years,  when we were blessed with the 1098.

Ciao

Crap, I better keep this 07 999 I've got in a case, because it must be a collector item.  999's were made from 03-07, which is 5 years.  Happens to also be the most winning SBK ducati has ever made.

In any case, at $14K + fee's, the 1100s is going to have a HARD time selling.  New 1100s for $15-16K OTD, or used S4RS with loads more power for 10K?  Hmmm.....
Ducati will care when it's sales fall into the crapper because of the falling dollar and crappy econ.  The cheap 1098 (relativly) and 848 pulled them back into the game, but when the 848 is 15k and the new 1198 is creeping into the 17's, the sales are going to fall.

As with the 696,  the initial view looks good, until you are visually assaulted by the plastic junk up front and the poor routing of the exhaust on the right side.    Kind of like a super model wearing a bib and showing off a botched colostomy.   jmo
