So a few of us Houston folks are planning on riding down to Austin Saturday morning, find a watering hole that evening and return home Sunday. We're looking for some direction where we could find lodging. With all the displaced Gulf Coast families spread out over different Texas cities we think it may be difficult to secure lodging with such short notice. Any help in pointing us to the right place would be greatly appreciated.
:D

And of course we would love to hook up with some locals for some fun riding.

I work until 12am on Sat. but I can hook up with you after work if you are still out at that time. Also, I have a spare room, a couch and plenty of floor space if any one needs a place to crash. A warning: I live a little out of town on 1626 between Austin and Buda. Call me at 512 300-5060 and let me know what you plan to do. Also, I'll be up for a ride on Sunday.

Joe,

Glad to hear you boys are rolling in.  How many riders are you talking about?  Hotels are most likely going to be tight due to the music festival and UT/Arkansas game Saturday.  Paul, Tim, myself and a few others are heading out for a spirited ride Sunday, so let us know what your plans are.  We typically meet around 8-9, but haven't ironed out any details yet.

This should be fun.............

You're hooked up & inked, just get yer asses here safely.......

Due to the drought (?); looking at the road kill, I'd have to say there's a lot of critters searching for water/food....heads up....especially porcupines   .........ouch!!

Also, speed traps (55, HA!) on 290E near the intersection of 183......ACL + UT/ARK = PoPo
Always one to be underestimated

Ducatibilt

Are there any noise laws in Austin?

I ask because I'm incedibly loud and annoying ;D

My bike makes noise too.

Looking forward to meeting you guys. [beer]

It was good to meet Ducatibilt and Chill at Ming's on Saturday. Lucky we all showed up at approximately the same time. Enjoy your ride tomorrow.

Austinites, thanks again for hosting a great ride.  You are such lucky bastards to have great roads on your backyard.  We had a great time and so sorry that Vince hit a patch of gravel and low side his beautiful bike.  He walked away without a scratch, but broke his right rear seat and clip-ons.  Vince is lucky to not have a scratch on him because he slid right between a huge rock and a barb wired post.
Riding in such big group has a many challenges.  Since I'm the slower of the bunch, I  want to point out a few things that would make our next ride together safer yet do not necessarily take the thrill out of riding fast enough.  That's what the track is for, right  [moto]

•   This is number 1.  You are responsible for the rider behind you.  Always keep a close eye on the rider behind you.
•   Considering the pre-requisite above, adjust your riding pace so it will trickle down to the last slower rider behind the group.  This balances the pace of the whole group ride. We wasted a bunch of time because a bunch of us separated from the group  :))
•   Always bring some tools along.  Paul, Tim, Laura, Ivo, you made it possible for Vinny to get back to the main road!

That's it for me. I'm sure there are many more I don't know about, but I'm always learning  ;D

Now the cool pics.

The patch of road that ended the day  :-[

Post crash group analysis :)

Lastly, waiting for a ride back to Houston.  Is Frank taking his beauty nap?  ;D

Special thanks to Paul and Scott for hosting us Houstonites  [thumbsup]

Sad to hear about the crash, but happy to know that it wasn't too serious and that no one got hurt. It seems like you guys had some fun.  [thumbsup]

As for the group rides thing, I have to disagree a bit with you.

Group rides should have one of the more experienced riders doing sweep work, and the people that aren't comfortable riding fast should stay towards the back, so they don't ruin the fun for those wanting to go faster.

When the guys in front are going to cross an intersection or go into another road, that's when they stop and wait for the others. This way everybody can ride at a pace they feel comfortable with and have fun at the same time.

Can't disagree with you on the tools though, they are elemental.
